Taxes are a huge issue for most people. I have been seeing memes going around about how it is okay to want to help others, but it is not okay to force the well off to help the needy through programs like food stamps (SNAP).
This statement annoys me to no end. I don’t know about you, but I think it is pretty horrible that we are paying 4 billion in corporate welfare to oil companies. I don’t hear the Right screaming about that, when the oil companies would be the queen of the corporate welfare queens. The oil companies are making RECORD profits and still receiving 4 billion in subsidies. If Exxon Mobil was welfare mom was making record wages and still collecting food stamps, Fox “news” would crucify her. They would use her to show that social welfare programs should be eliminated altogether because one person misused the system. The few thousand dollars in a year she collected that she was required to use on food is NOTHING compared to the welfare corporations are getting.
Someone making $50,000 a year with one dependent pays around 10 cents a day. I would think of this as a cheap insurance policy. If you ever come on really hard times, like making less than $23,532 a year for two people before taxes, then you can get up to $367 dollars for food every month in the great state of Pennsylvania. I believe in cutting the waste and fraud, but cutting welfare 100% will not solve our problems and it will also leave many children and elderly people without the means to feed themselves. Please stop pretending that social welfare is ruining this country, when corporate welfare and greed is at least a little closer to the mark.
